Long reserved for cinema and television, aerial images are now within reach of companies of all sizes. Used well, they add a spectacular dimension to your content and show what can’t be seen from the ground.
What a drone can show
- The scale of a site: factory, warehouse, estate, campus, hotel;
- The progress of a construction project, with regular shots over the months;
- A territory: your company’s surroundings, your region, your landscapes;
- An event: the crowd at a trade show, a festival or an outdoor party;
- Transitions and openings that give a brand film some breathing room.
An aerial shot isn’t everything
The most common mistake is piling on flyovers without intent. A drone shot works best when it’s rare and well placed: opening a film, setting a location, or creating a breather between two sequences closer to the people. It should tell something, not just impress.
A regulated activity
In France, using a drone for professional purposes is regulated. Depending on the location and type of flight, training, declarations or authorisations may be required, and certain areas are prohibited or restricted (around airports, dense urban areas, sensitive sites…).
Before calling on a provider, make sure they know these rules and take care of the necessary procedures. It’s a guarantee of safety, but also peace of mind for you.
Preparing an aerial shoot properly
- Define precisely the shots you want and how they’ll be used;
- Check the flight area and any authorisations well in advance;
- Plan a backup date: weather (wind, rain) can prevent flying;
- Inform the people present on site on the day of the shoot;
- Choose the right light: the beginning and end of the day are often the most beautiful.
The drone, one tool among others
Aerial images come into their own when combined with ground-level shots, interviews and close-up details. It’s this mix that gives a film its richness and rhythm.
At that dog, the drone is one of our tools, just like our cinema cameras and lighting equipment. We use it when it serves your story, and we take care of organising the flight.
